Great Support

by -

At first I thought this was going to be like leaning back on a rock and would have to be returned but all it took was pulling out the hard piece of cardboard and voila, comfort and just the right amount of support. I understand some people might need that extra hardness of the cardboard, and it is in no way a pliable piece of cardboard, so it's good whichever way works best for you.

Decent lumbar support, sturdy and well made, doesn't have a carrying handle which would be nice to have

There's so many lumbar back supports that after awhile we just had to go for it and pick one. This one is "ok". It does what it should, which is provides support for the lower back when sitting. We purchased this item for someone with severely herniated discs in the lower back and use it along with a Travel Mate Coccyx Orthopedic Gel seat cushion. The two items work well together - one for the chair seat and one for the back. This lumbar support curves IN, whereas other supports have a "bump" that curves out. I think it's a matter of preference which to use. Both keep the lower back straight and the spine in line, and assist with posture. This provides some relief from pressure on herniated discs. This back support comes with a chair strap, to hold in it place. That is used about half of the time. What this product is missing is a carrying handle! The chair strap doesn't work well for that b/c it's stretchy and isn't a carrying handle. If this product is going to be carried places (ours is - it's taken everywhere - in the car, to restaurants, used at home, on the plane for travel, etc) then not having a carrying handle will become annoying after awhile. As far as quality, it's well made and has held up great after weeks of daily use and being carried all over the place. It works well in the car, especially. Overall a good lumbar back support - if it had a carrying handle it would be very good.

Amazing for travel - fixes airplane seats and great for long meetings

I have a chronic low back problem and I also have to travel a lot. This back pad is great - I own four or five which I keep permanently in some chairs, one in my car's seat, and have a few spares. I travel with one religiously. It has an elastic strap on the back which you can slide over your "roller bag" suitcase handle when it's extended. This makes it really easy to take with you on travel, without taking space up in your bag. Also, airport security has never complained that this is an extra bag. I always take a roller bag, a backpack and this backpad onto the plane and no one has told me it's a problem (I fly ~75k miles a year). So if you travel by car, plane or train, or if you sit in an office chair a lot, give this a try - I've been amazed at how much more comfortable and pain free sitting can be.
