Great Transfer Board

by -

I recently underwent a below-the-knee amputation and needed to be able to transfer from my power chair to the passenger side of our vehicle. While I did not initially believe that I would need a board, my wife felt that using one would make the tranafer easier, safer, and more reliable for me, so she ordered the Duro-Med DMI Bariatric Transfer Board. The transfer board was packed well, arrived quickly, and I'm extremely impressed with it. I am a former EMT, so I have a lot of experience working with people who are using wheelchairs or powerchairs, and it is now very interesting to me to be on the other side of the equation. This transfer board is extraordinarily well designed. It's made from good material, is smooth and very sturdy, and the non-slip pads on the underside are extremely helpful in maintaining proper position while transferring. I'm 6'6" and weigh 325, and I feel completely safe and stable when using the board. The board has made transferring in and out of our vehicle easy, and I highly recommend it.

Perfect Transfer Board!

My husband broke both ankles in February. The rehab facility taught him how to use a transfer slide board, but when he was discharged, we had to purchase our own. I went to a medical supply store and bought one--the only one they carried--but it turned out to be too short and the ends weren't tapered as shown on the packaging. I looked on Amazon and found the Duro-Med board. My husband says it is perfect. 1) It is longer and therefore much easier to maneuver with. 2) The ends are tapered as shown--very important! 3) This board has the two cut-outs which make for much easier transfers than the one the rehab facility had--he really likes this feature; and 4) There are rubber-like patches at each end on the underside which greatly help keeping the board steady during transfers. The board is sturdy and has a glossy finish. We're convinced this is the best board on the market!

So far very good

My dad (a double amputee who has recently been stuck in a chair due to illness) was skeptical, but with a bit of learning he is using it to get in and out of a car. Something he previously only did with the wheelchair in a van. He says it's smooth enough to slide on, and seems to stay put fairly well. Only time will tell about sturdiness. It arrived with a "dent" in the side from shipping so we were a bit apprehensive as to sturdiness.
